about
Combining forces with BLOOD-- the dark-wave solo project of Nick Schubert (GGOOLLDD), and drummer/producer Mark Stewart (GGOOLLDD, Pharo) You Win !!! aims to expand their musical identity through collaborative efforts. The result? A synth-soaked, shimmery testament to exploration and acceptance, tinged with all the wistfulness and nostalgia of an 80's prom scene. Weaving through BLOOD's dreamy production, Huff's vocals switch between intimate cries of wanting to belong and a powerful chorus that assures the listener that the answers they seek start with embracing their personal identity. As a member of the LGBTQ community, Huff wanted to create a track that addressed the in-between juncture of feeling lost in your sexuality before coming out, as well as the warmth that comes in those first moments of reassurance. The track was mixed by This Random Machine at the Hear Here Presents studio, mastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering, and the cover art was created by Madison Phillips.
In tandem with single's debut, the team is excited to announce they have partnered with the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center to donate all proceeds from the track towards their vitally important Transgender Name Change Project. Established by the Center’s Transgender Program Coordinator Alex Corona (she/her) in 2018, the Name Change Project provides complete funding, affirming guidance, and support for trans individuals navigating the harrowing and expensive process of changing their legal name. Official name changes can provide relief from the dysphoria many endure between their personal and legal identification, lessen the level of discrimination they face in employment and day-to-day opportunities, and provide an extra buffer of safety in circumstances where being outed by an ID requirement can open the door to trauma and violence. To date, Alex has helped over 75 people acquire a legal change of name, and does not see that momentum halting any time soon as she fights to dismantle the need for such a convoluted process altogether. Each name change comes with the steep cumulative cost of roughly $375 per individual, so maintaining financial support is crucial to providing accessible aid to this marginalized community. lyrics
I heard you’re with the girl next door
And she's giving you everything you wanted
I tried to cry I needed more
I was jealous and craving direction
Heaven’s only a closet away
Come out, come out
When you feel ready to play
Do you want to know what it feels like to be true?
I know you can, I know you do
I heard you’re with the boy next door
And he’s giving you everything you wanted
I tried to cry I needed more
I was aimless and craving affection
Heaven’s only a closet away
Come out, come out
When you feel ready to play
Do you want to know what it feels like to be true?
I know you can, I know you do
